We've likely all been advised to turn our thermostats down overnight or while we're out of the house to help save on energy costs, but remember to do so within reason: If your home gets too cold, you run the risk of your pipes freezing, and then bursting. The minimum safe temperature will likely vary depending on where your home's pipes are located, what they're made of, and how well insulated they are. If you live in an apartment or condo, your building management or HOA may even establish minimum required temperatures for your thermostat to be set at. There's of course value in doing our part to save energy--but make sure to do so safely.
